On the other hand, it’s important to be able to function effectively despite the fear. Susan Jeffers wrote an excellent book, called “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.” I highly recommend that book to any aspiring entrepreneur. It captures the essence of how to handle fear perfectly.

2) They Make Plans And Take Action

 Entrepreneurs are not afraid of planning, setting goals, and taking action. In fact, they need to plan to be successful – and those plans have to be acted upon to get things done.

3) They Understand Income vs. Cash Flow

Talk about handling fear. When it comes to dealing with money, a lot of people are tempted to chicken out. Successful entrepreneurs must be up to the task – and they also understand the difference between income and cash flow.

They are also prepared to deal with maintaining adequate cash flow to help their business thrive. Getting help and/or working with a proven winner will go a long way towards making that happen.

 4) They’re Willing And Able To Self-Promote

Shyness has no place in the life of a successful entrepreneur. If you want to be successful, you have to be able to stand out, let people know about what you have to offer, and promote yourself and your products and services. 5) They’re Not Afraid Of Change

Just read about Apple and Virgin and you’ll know that change is inevitable, and can be used to create ever greater success. So when things get tough, it’s important to keep in mind that change also means opportunity, and keep your focus on making the most of each and every opportunity that presents itself.

Maybe you’ve scheduled a vacation (and yes, you should definitely take one).

Or perhaps your business has slowed down because so many of your partners and customers are away for a break. Either way, summer is generally slower than the rest of the year, with the exception of Christmas season.

So why not use some of that extra time to think about what helps you make your business successful: The right mindset!

So today, I’m going to share three key features of a winning entrepreneurial mindset that can help you grow your business if you apply them.

What are the features of a Winning Entrepreneurial Mindset?

There are a range of features, but I picked out three that are probably the most important features of an entrepreneurial mindset. First, realize that you’re dealing with YOUR business. Next, focus on the positive, especially in terms of what you want to accomplish. And third, look at time like an entrepreneur! You’ll be surprised at the difference it will make.

1) It’s YOUR business

When you own a business, you’re the one who is ultimately responsible for its success. Sure, there are outside factors that can have an impact on your business’s bottom line, but you’re the one who must decide what to do about it. It’s YOUR business how your business is doing.

Don’t go about it in a guilt-tripping way, though. Approach it from a sense of empowerment. You’re in charge, and you make the decisions. And you get to take credit for a successful outcome.

2) Focus on the positive (i.e., your goals)

I need to qualify what I mean by focusing on the positive… Focusing on the positive doesn’t mean to ignore what’s not going so well. Instead, as you notice things you’d like to change, keep your focus on the desired outcome, not on your fears and worries. Focus on changing things for the better.

You know that saying about the glass being half full only too well. And that’s a good start. But don’t stop there. After all, there’s such a thing as a refill. Remember, if things aren’t going the way you want them to go, you can get a refill.

3) Entrepreneurial time

Time is different for entrepreneurs. When employees have clocked their time, they get to leave for the day. As an entrepreneur, you don’t have that option. You may even still be thinking about your business or pondering ideas when you should be fast asleep.

Now I don’t recommend that you let your business keep you up at night. It’s crucial to get enough sleep to keep your brain in top working order – and you’ll NEED it to be functioning at top capacity. Yet it’s important to realize that there’s often no clear division between time spent in (as well as on) your business, and time spent on other aspects of your life. The key is to work smarter, not harder… In short, be sure to nurture a winning entrepreneurial mindset.

And while the weather may not always make it feel that way, it’s the season where we think of taking time off to go to the beach, the park, and all kinds of fun events. But not so fast! It’s also a great opportunity to grow your business in summer.

You may not associate summer time with marketing, but the truth is that any business needs to keep marketing year round, and summer offers some special opportunities that most people miss. So what are they? Let me share just a few:

1) It’s easier to grow your business in summer

It’s easier because… it’s less busy! This means that there’s less competition. While your competitors are enjoying the beach, you have a better chance to make contact with those busy VIPs you’d like to get to know better. Invite someone to lunch!

And while some networking meetings may take some time off or aren’t well attended, you now have a better chance to connect with those who do attend the meetings that still occur. So make sure to seek out the meetings you may not always have time for during the year, and be prepared to make some new connections.

2) Open air events

Summer is the season for Open Air events. Many of these are community events, and that’s perfect for increasing your visibility. Contact the organisers and ask how you might be able to help. They’ll ALWAYS need more sponsors! So be a sponsor. For a contribution in cash and possibly some goods and services, you could get a spot in their event publications, plus a table, depending on the type of event. That’s yet another great way to grow your business in summer.

3) Talk to people

Chances are you’re out and about a lot more than usual throughout the summer, and you never know who might be standing next to you. Talk to people. Be social and find out who they are and what they do. And always have cards and maybe a few small promotional gifts with you so you can share them with the appropriate people.

As you can see, you can easily grow your network while you’re out having fun. As long as you come prepared, and keep any business talk light, it can work very well. Just stay away from trying to sell. Instead, build the connection, ask questions, and find out as much as you can about the person you’re talking to. Then follow up and, yes, have lunch. And before you know it, you’ll have found another opportunity to grow your business in summer.

4) Make the most of slow-downs in your office

If things get kind of slow in the office during summer, there are lots of ways to make the most of it. When your crew isn’t as busy as usually, now’s the time to get caught up on things they don’t usually have time for.

If they’re in sales, they can start calling all their contacts to get caught up and maybe even invite them to lunch if they’re nearby.  And if they’re in other roles, they could declutter their email inboxes and the paperwork. Now’s the time to get rid of things that are no longer needed and shred them if they’re confidential or simply recycle them if they’re not.
